Skylar is the youngest daughter of Alpha James of the Moonstone pack, and she’s the apple of his eye. Chapter 1

Sebastian

The forest echoed with the crunch of leaves and twigs under my boots as I walked the overgrown path leading to the pack house. My heavy combat boots weren't designed for stealth, but I wasn't aiming for that today.

This wasn't my territory, but I was here by invitation.

If the Moonstone Pack's alpha had any warriors or border guards on patrol, they were keeping their distance.

I couldn't spot them in the moonlight, but I knew they were hiding in the shadows.

I flared my nostrils, taking in the forest's scent. I could smell them, or at least the fear they were radiating.

They should be scared. I didn't become the strongest alpha in the western hemisphere for nothing.

Not that I was here for a fight. At least not yet. But my reputation had a way of arriving before me. Not that I minded. Fear was a powerful weapon, and I was well aware of the rumors swirling about me and my pack.

Most of them were true.

I was harsh and merciless when it came to my enemies, and I demanded loyalty and obedience from my pack. My word was law, and the punishment for disobedience was severe.

I didn't allow anyone onto my territory without an invitation, and those were rarely given. Anyone who strayed into my territory, even by accident, was never heard from again; at least not outside my territory.

As we neared the pack house, I looked at it with contempt, as did my brother.

Kyrian glanced at me and raised his eyebrows. It had definitely seen better days.

Compared to other pack houses, it was small.

Nothing like our own pack house.

I knew this pack was small and weak, but I had expected a bit more than this. I wasn't sure what the alpha was planning to offer us. Not that I was really interested in this pack.

The alpha, however, must have had different thoughts; otherwise, we wouldn't be here.

"Remind me why we're here again," Kyrian asked.

I glanced at my brother.

He was a bit shorter than me, and his muscles slightly less defined. But you could tell we were brothers. We both had dirty blond hair and piercing blue eyes. We both wore our hair long.

While mine was styled in an undercut, he always wore his in a braid.

I was proud to have him as my beta, even though he was alpha-born.

"We're here to negotiate with this sorry excuse for an alpha," I smirked.

Kyrian rolled his eyes.

"You mean, Bastian, you'll tell him what you want, and if he refuses, you'll threaten to wipe out his pack."

I let the omission of my title slide.

Kyrian was the only one who could call me by my name; everyone else addressed me as Alpha.

I never scolded him for not using my full title when we were alone. Kyrian would never dream of doing it in public.

That being said, I knew a gentle reminder never hurt.

"Remember to address me as Alpha when we get inside," I chided.

Kyrian smirked and bowed his head

"Yes, Alpha."

I rolled my eyes and smirked.

"Let's get this over with, little brother."

As we approached the entrance of the pack house, I noticed Kyrian scanning the area. Probably looking for any threats.

The guards here were also nowhere to be seen.

"Do you think they know we're here?" he asked.

I chuckled at his frown.

"Use your nose, little brother, you may not see them, but you can smell their fear."

Kyrian sniffed the air, then smirked.

I followed his gaze. He was looking at one of the windows on the second floor. But when I looked, I doubted it was the architecture that caught his eye.

It was the young woman, or girl, who was watching us from above.

"What about her? Do you think she's scared of you?"

I looked up at her and smirked.

She quickly retreated from the window, disappearing from sight.

"If she wasn't, she probably is now." I chuckled.

I looked again, hoping to catch another glimpse of the petite blonde in the window. She was definitely a pretty little thing from what I had seen.

But it seemed I was out of luck today. She didn't reappear, so I turned my attention back to the pack house doors.

When we reached the doors, I banged loudly on them with my fist. I quickly glanced over my shoulder.

I had brought two additional warriors with me. They had kept a respectful distance from us, as was expected.

I quickly mind-linked them. Stay outside, unless I call for you

The two men bowed their heads in acknowledgment.

I turned my gaze back to the door, ready to bang on it again; but there was no need, as it slowly opened

An older man stood there. He was clearly nervous. He bowed his head.

"Alpha Sebastian, Beta Kyrian. Welcome to the Moonstone Pack. I'm Beta William. Alpha James is waiting for you, if you'd care to follow me," he announced, his voice trembling slightly.

I was taken aback.

A nod of respect was expected from a beta, but not a full bow of submission. Not only that, but I could smell the fear radiating from him. My brother would never act like that.

Maybe this pack was weaker than I thought. That would make my job a bit easier.

The beta led me to what seemed to be a conference room.

Or it could have been a dining room.

The long wooden table could probably seat twelve on each side. Right now, the alpha sat at the head of the table in a feeble attempt to show he was the dominant alpha in the room. His attempt had failed.

I looked at Alpha James. My assumption had been correct.

He was a very weak alpha. His dark hair hung limp and a bit disheveled, his brown eyes struggled to meet my gaze.

His beard was unkempt, peppered with gray, revealing his age.

I didn't doubt that my brother could best him in a challenge.

I was beginning to wonder if he was a true alpha.

But we weren't here for a challenge. At least not yet.

I was here to see what this Alpha had to offer, or more accurately, what he wanted.

Alpha James stood as we approached. He held out his hand, waiting for me to take it.

If that was what he expected, he was going to be sorely disappointed.

I took a seat in one of the chairs, leaving him awkwardly standing with his hand still extended. He quickly pulled it back

His beta moved to stand slightly to the left of his chair, like a silent sentinel.

My brother claimed the chair next to me.

I leaned back, crossing my right leg over my left, and looked at him expectantly.

My casual demeanor was a clear sign of disrespect. Any alpha worth his title would have called me out on it. But he didn't.

I kept my eyes on him, even though I didn't need to. His fear was palpable.

He cleared his throat and gestured to a tray on the table.

"Care for a drink?" he offered

I nodded. It was whiskey, my preferred choice. But given the state of his pack house, I had no doubt it would be a cheap brand

He looked at Kyrian, who declined with a shake of his head.

My brother enjoyed a good drink, but in situations like this, he preferred to stay sharp.

Alpha James poured two generous servings and slid one of the glasses toward me. I sniffed it and took a sip. As expected, it was weak. It wouldn't surprise me if it was watered down.

I made a face and set the glass down with a thud.

"Why exactly did you invite me here, Alpha James?" I asked.

He swallowed, visibly nervous.

"I...uh. was hoping we could become allies," he stammered.

I hummed and nodded.

"And what exactly can you offer me?"

He stiffened slightly.

"As you may know, the main transport route runs through my territory. I charge a levy on any goods passing through. I'm willing to waive this for you, if you agree to a non-aggression treaty," he proposed.

I rolled my eyes at my brother, then turned my gaze back to Alpha James.

"You think the measly toll you charge is enough to convince me not to attack your pack?" I snapped. "Offer me something worthwhile."

His face turned pale.

"L-like what?" he stuttered.

I leaned forward, licking my lips.

"Like your daughter."

Alpha James glanced at his beta, then back at me.

"What do you want with my daughter?" he asked, his voice shaky.

I shrugged.

"I need a mate. An alpha female. A she-wolf who can bear me pups, an heir."

He nodded and turned to his beta.

"Send one of the omegas to fetch Emmeline."

The beta nodded and exited through a door at the back of the room. "What if you find your mate?" Alpha James asked.

I sneered at him.

"Don't play dumb, Alpha. Everyone knows my fated mate is dead."

He nodded. The rumors were widespread, but now he had confirmation straight from the source.

"Can you guarantee my daughter won't meet the same fate?"

I shrugged.

"That depends on your daughter," I retorted.

My attention shifted as the door opened. The beta returned, escorting a young she-wolf.

She wasn't what I was expecting.

I had anticipated the petite blonde. This one had dark hair and her father's brown eyes. She was clearly older than the girl we'd seen at the window.

If she was his daughter, she must take after her mother.

Alpha James stood and extended his hand to the young woman.

"This is my daughter, Emmeline. Emmeline, this is Alpha Sebastian. He's looking for a mate."

She smiled and approached me, extending her hand. Her scent was tainted with other males. If her father was trying to pass her off as untouched, he was mistaken.

Besides, I wasn't interested in her.

"Pleased to meet you, Alpha..." she began.

I ignored her and turned to Alpha James.

"Not this one... She's not my type. The pretty one, the blonde one."

Alpha James swallowed hard, and his daughter's face twisted with anger.

She opened her mouth to protest, but her father silenced her with a raised hand.

She closed her mouth.

At least his daughters were obedient. Well, this one was. I doubted the younger one would be any different.

"Sky-Skylar... she's barely of age. She's not ready to be anyone's mate," he stammered.

I crossed my arms over my chest.

"You have a choice, either you bring her down here now, or I'll leave, come back tomorrow and slaughter your pack.

Then I'll take her anyway!"

Chapter 2

Sebastian

I found myself staring at Alpha James, waiting for his response. Unexpectedly, it was his flirtatious daughter who broke the silence.

"Skylar went to bed a few hours ago."

Alpha James shot a quick look at his daughter, then turned his gaze back to me.

"Maybe you could visit her tomorrow," he suggested.

I shot him a hard look.

"Wake her up. Bring her to me now, or I'll make good on my threat."

He nodded, swallowing hard, before leaning in to whisper to his daughter.

"Go get her, Emmeline...quickly."

I wasn't sure why he felt the need to whisper. I could hear his words as clearly as if he'd spoken them aloud

However, he didn't hear Kyrian's words as he mind-linked

me.

Are you sure you want to do this, Bastian?

I didn't respond, just shot him a look that said it all.

There was something about the girl I'd seen in the window. I knew she wasn't my destined mate, but I felt an inexplicable pull towards her.

I tapped my fingers on the table, the rings I wore amplifying the sound, making it echo through the room.

An uncomfortable silence stretched out for five minutes as we waited.

Then the door opened, the same one the other daughter had emerged from earlier.

Both women walked through the door. It was clear how different they were. The older daughter, Emmeline, was tall and curvy. Her expression was hard, something I didn't particularly like.

Skylar was the polar opposite. Her features were soft, her blond hair framing her petite face. She was smaller, not just in height but in overall size.

It was obvious her sister had pulled her from her bed. She was wearing a thin white nightdress that ended just above her knees. She stood there in bare feet, her toes curling nervously on the floor.

When she looked up and saw me, she let out a small gasp.

Her face turned pink as she quickly looked down at the floor.

Her sister stepped away from her and rejoined her father and the beta, leaving her standing there like a lost little girl.

Alpha James cleared his throat.

"Skylar, this is Alpha Sebastian. He is..."

I raised my hand to stop him.

I stood up and walked towards her slowly. Despite her initial gasp, I couldn't detect any fear.

She was tiny. If I didn't know better, I would have thought she was still a pup.

I gently took hold of her chin, tilting her head to examine

her.

"How old did you say she was, Alpha James?" I asked, keeping my gaze on Skylar.

"She turned eighteen a few weeks ago," he replied, his voice shaky.

I hummed and nodded my head

"Look at me, Skylar," I ordered.

I applied gentle pressure to her chin, encouraging her to do SO.

She met my gaze for a moment before quickly looking away.

Her eyes were a stunning green. She didn't resemble her father at all. I removed my hand from her face and frowned.

"Is she your daughter?" I growled, looking at the Alpha.

He nodded. "Yes, but..."

I raised my hand to stop him again.

I didn't need to know the family history, just that she had Alpha blood in her veins. Her mother must have been very beautiful because she certainly didn't take after her father.

I turned my attention back to Skylar.

She was frowning, clearly not pleased that I questioned her parentage, though her head was still bowed.

"Good, I'll take her," I decided

She jerked her head up to look at me, then turned to her father.

"Daddy?" she asked, confused.

"Skylar?" I commanded forcefully. "Look at me."

Her eyes snapped back to me, and she swallowed nervously.

"Kneel. Submit to your Alpha," I demanded.

She stared at me, a look of horror on her face.

It was the first time she had looked me in the eye without me asking.

She shook her head and took a step backward.

"No, I won't. You're not my Alpha."

She looked at her father.

"Daddy? What's happening?"

Alpha James' face twisted into a grimace. He let out a heavy sigh.

"Sky... You have to go with Alpha Sebastian, you're to be his mate."

She glared at her father, then at me.

"No... No, I won't go. He's not my mate, not my true mate."

She made a dash for the door, but I anticipated her move, and just as she opened it, I slammed it shut.

I grabbed a handful of her soft hair and yanked her head back, forcing her to look at me.

"You will submit to me, Skylar, now kneel," I warned.

She narrowed her eyes, but I saw the change in color as they flicked from emerald green to gold and back again.

Her wolf was trying to take control.

"I will not!" she hissed through clenched teeth.

I wasn't sure if this was her or her wolf. It didn't really matter. I would not be disobeyed; she would learn that soon enough,

I put my hand around her throat, tight enough to be a threat, but not tight enough to cut off her air.

Then I mind-linked my warriors.

Get in here now!

Within seconds, the doors burst open and my two warriors appeared.

Alpha James stood up.

"I don't think that's necessary!" he protested.

I shot him a glare.

"Silence! I will decide what is or is not necessary," I warned.

I shifted my gaze to one of the warriors.

"Aaron, bind her wrists," I ordered

I watched as he pulled a backpack from his back.

He put on a pair of gloves and then pulled out a length of rope.

I felt Skylar start to struggle, so I tightened my grip. She whimpered but stopped her struggling. Good, she was learning who was in control.

Aaron started to bind her wrists; as he did, she let out a cry.

"It hurts," she yelped.

It was no surprise. The rope was laced with silver and soaked in Wolfsbane. If her wolf was going to emerge, I would need more control.

I'had no intention of getting into a fight with an alpha she-wolf. Not if I wanted to make her my mate.

Once Aaron had secured the rope, I looked at her and smirked.

"Cross your alpha, and you'll pay the price."

I turned my back on her, making my way to the now welcoming doors. I paused at the entrance, throwing a final look at Alpha James.

"Always a pleasure, Alpha. But heed my warning-don't even dream of taking your daughter back."

His gaze flickered between his visibly upset daughter and me.

"Alpha Sebastian, at least let her dress."

I shot a glance at the woman soon to be mine.

"She forfeited that right when she defied me."

Skylar turned her pleading eyes to her father.

"Daddy... Please don't let this happen."

I watched as he managed a weak smile.

"Just... be good, Skylar. Everything will be okay if you're good."

I couldn't help but roll my eyes.

"Let's get moving."

Aaron gave the rope a tug, forcing Skylar to step forward We had a long journey ahead-about two hours.

By the time we reached my territory and pack house, she'd be ready to kneel and submit.

I sent a mind-link to my brother.

Wait here until we cross into my territory, then ensure the alpha expels Skylar from his pack.

No wolf ever wanted to be a rogue. The moment she felt the link snap, she'd be more than eager to join my pack.

I admired her strength, but I might have to break her to make her my mate.

If that's what it took, then so be it.

Chapter 3

Skylar

Emmeline shook me awake, her voice urgent. She said our father needed to see me right away.

I walked into the room, my heart pounding. The men I'd been watching from my window were there. I felt a flush of embarrassment. I knew I shouldn't have been spying.

We all knew the alpha of the Tenebris pack was visiting. He was known for his brutality, ruthlessness, and the fact that he was mateless.

Emmeline was still hoping to find a mate with a high rank.

She didn't care if they were fated or chosen.

I did. I wanted my fated mate.

Looking at an alpha was considered disrespectful. I didn't mean to stare. I was just curious. He rarely left his territory unless it was to attack

Few people knew what he looked like.

Now, I was standing in the same room as him. I should have been scared, but I wasn't.

My father started to speak, but the alpha silenced him.

I thought that was rude, This was my father's house.

Then he took my chin in his large, tattooed hands, adorned with gold rings. He tilted my head from side to side, examining me like I was an animal at a market. I felt a surge of anger. We might not be as wealthy as his pack, but we deserved respect.

He didn't even ask me his question directly. He asked my father, as if I couldn't speak for myself.

Then he ordered me to look at him. I didn't want to, but he forced me to.

I met his gaze for a moment before looking away.

Then he had the nerve to question my parentage. I decided right then that I didn't like him. How dare he!

My father started to speak, probably about my mother, but he was silenced again.

Then he said the words that made my blood run cold.

"Good, I'll take her."

I'd kept my head down out of respect, but at his words, I looked up. His face was expressionless. Not kind, not angry.

Just matter-of-fact.

I turned to my father, my eyes wide with fear.

Was this his doing?

"Daddy?" I asked, but the alpha cut me off.

"Skylar? Look at me."

I swallowed hard and looked back at him.

Then he said the words that made my stomach churn.

"Kneel. Submit to your alpha," he demanded.

I couldn't believe what was happening. My father was giving me away.

I shook my head and stepped back.

"N... no. I won't. You're not my alpha," I said, my voice trembling.

I looked at my father.

"Daddy? What's happening?"

He tried to smile, but I could see the strain on his face.

"Sky... You have to go with Alpha Sebastian, you're to be his mate."

I shook my head. This couldn't be happening. My father had always protected me from mateless wolves.

Now he was giving me to this brute.

"No. no," I protested, "I won't go. He's not my mate, not my true mate."

I turned and ran for the door. I'd run away if I had to, but I wasn't going to give myself to him.

Somehow, Alpha Sebastian reached the door before I did.

He slammed it shut and grabbed my hair.

I cried out as he yanked my head back. It felt like a thousand nails were being driven into my scalp.

He forced me to look at his face, which was now twisted with anger.

"You will submit to me, Skylar, now kneel," he warned

I heard a voice in my head. At first, I thought it was my wolf, but then I realized it was Emmeline mind-linking me.

Whatever you do, Sky, don't submit to him.

She didn't need to tell me. I had no intention of submitting.

I called on my wolf's strength to give me the courage I needed

"I will not," I hissed through gritted teeth.

His hand tightened around my throat.

If it was submit or die, I would rather die.

After that, everything was a blur.

The doors being slammed open as two strange warriors entered, my father's protests, Alpha Sebastian yelling angrily...

Then one of the warriors came toward me with a rope. I tried to struggle but the alpha's grip only tightened.

As the rope touched my skin, I screamed.

It burned on contact, and it continued to burn as the warrior roughly bound my wrists together.

There must have been something on it. Wolfsbane, or silver.

I felt my wolf fading as the chemicals did their work.

"It hurts," I whimpered.

The alpha looked at me and smirked, almost as though he was enjoying my pain.

"There are consequences when you disobey your alpha."

I was about to scream at him, that he would never be my alpha, but he just walked away.

Even if I wanted him for a mate, what sort of mate would he be? He was vile and loathsome.

I hated him.

I gave my father one last pleading look.

"Please Daddy... Don't do this," I begged.

"Just...just be a good girl, Skylar. It'll all work out if you're a good girl," he replied.

Then the rope was yanked harshly. I stumbled forward.

I was dragged out of the pack house by the rope around my wrists, totally ignored by the alpha and the two warriors.

When they didn't think I was walking fast enough, they would roughly yank on the rope.

I looked behind me one last time as my home disappeared from view. Silent tears ran down my cheeks.

I'd always tried to be good. To be respectful. What good had it done me?

Why hadn't he wanted my sister?

She would have willingly gone with him. Then why did she tell me not to submit? Not that I wanted to, but it seemed strange.

The thought was soon pushed from my mind as brambles and branches snagged the skin on my legs and feet.

The cuts on my skin were oozing blood, each one throbbing with a pain that seemed to intensify. Without my wolf, I couldn't heal. Was this what he meant by consequences?

Every time I stumbled or fell, the warrior dragging me along would yank the rope harshly. Shooting him a glare would only make things worse. He saw the blood, but he didn't care.

I could feel it.

The boundary line between my pack and his was approaching. Once I crossed that line, there was no turning back. I'd heard the whispers. Once I was in his territory, I would be trapped.

This was my home, and I was being taken away against my will.

I came to a halt.

The warrior holding the rope turned his head and shot me a glare.

"Move," he ordered.

I stood my ground and shook my head.

He yanked the rope so hard that I fell to my knees.

A sob escaped my lips. It wasn't just the invisible boundary line that had been crossed. I felt something else. A rejection, a severed link.

My pack had rejected me.

I'd heard stories about the pain of being rejected by your mate. It was rare, but it happened. But the agony of being rejected by your pack was a hundred times worse.

No wonder rogues lost their minds or became addicted to Wolfsbane.

I clutched my stomach as best as I could, with my hands still tied. I doubled over in pain and let my tears fall.

I only lifted my head when I felt a gentle touch on my cheek.

"That's it, Skylar, kneel and submit to me."

I jerked away from his touch and glared at him.

"You... You did this. You made him reject me from my pack," I accused.

He looked at me and nodded.

"It's for the best. Now you just need to kneel and submit to me as your alpha and as your mate."

I shook my head and glared at him.

"T'll never submit to you, not ever. I'd rather die. I hate you."

I glanced at the rope tied to my wrists. I knew it was laced with Wolfsbane or silver. My wrists were still burning from the contact.

That's why the warrior was wearing gloves.

I grabbed the rope with my bare hands. I didn't try to stifle the scream that erupted from my lips as the rope seared my palms.

Alpha Sebastian yanked the rope from my hands. He glared at me, his eyes filled with anger.

"Why? Why would you do something so foolish? You know that rope is laced with silver and Wolfsbane?"

I sneered at him.

"You want to hurt me... go ahead, or kill me, you can do that too, I don't care anymore," I spat.

He shook his head, then grabbed my arm and pulled me to my feet.

He turned to the warrior who was still holding the rope.

"Come on, let's go," he hissed as he walked away.

The warrior tugged the rope gently, much gentler than before. Maybe he felt sorry for me.

I didn't need his pity. I would just bide my time until there was an opportunity for me to escape.

I didn't need to remember my sister's last words to me. I was never going to submit to him. I'd rather die first.

Chapter 4

Skylar

I was torn between two sources of anger: Alpha Sebastian, who had ripped me away from my family, and my own father, who hadn't fought hard enough to keep me.

I started to question if he had ever really loved me.

My mom had always assured me he did, but maybe she was mistaken. Maybe he only took me in out of obligation after she passed away.

I could still vividly recall the day she revealed who my father was.

"Skylar, sweetheart, come here," she beckoned.

I left the vegetable garden I was tending and ran over to where she sat on the porch, a letter in her hand.

She patted the spot next to her, inviting me to sit.

I did, studying her face.

She offered a smile, tinged with sadness.

"Your daddy wants to see you," she said.

I was confused. We'd never talked about my dad before, and I'd never asked.

It had always been just the two of us. We had everything we needed-food, clothes, each other.

"I thought I didn't have a daddy?" I asked, my young mind not fully understanding.

She laughed softly.

"Everyone has a daddy," she explained. "Yours is just... important. He doesn't always have time for us. But now that you're six, Skylar, he thinks it's time you knew who he is." ~

She paused, her voice dropping. "Even if you don't see him much."

I shrugged

"Just remember, no matter what happens, your daddy loves

you. "

I nodded.

She ruffed my hair, a familiar gesture of affection.

"Go wash up, your daddy is joining us for dinner tonight."

My thoughts were interrupted by a gentle tug on the rope.

We had stopped. I looked up to see a massive building looming before us.

The other man, who had been at my father's pack house, was now with us. He bore a striking resemblance to the alpha, just younger. I guessed he was the beta.

Under normal circumstances, I would have been awestruck, but right now, I couldn't care less.

The building was grand, almost regal.

Constructed from dark red wood, it stood three stories tall.

The second floor boasted several balconies. Each room on the upper levels had floor-to-ceiling leaded windows, some adorned with stained glass.

The entrance was marked by two towering wooden doors that spanned two floors, guarded by two warriors.

The alpha's brother turned to me, a smile playing on his lips.

"Impressive, isn't it?"

I shrugged, curling my lip in disdain.

I didn't doubt it was, but I had a feeling I wouldn't be seeing much of the luxury. Not unless I submitted to the alpha. And that would happen when hell froze over.

He rolled his eyes, and we continued toward the entrance.

As we neared, the two warriors at the doors bowed and swung them open.

If the exterior was impressive, the interior was even more so

Inside, a double staircase led up to a gallery, with corridors extending beyond. The floor was adorned with intricate wooden marquetry, depicting wolves and flowers.

Soft leather sofas lined the edges, and several doors led to who knows where.

I was guided toward another set of double doors.

Again, two warriors stood guard, bowing to the alpha before opening the doors.

The room beyond was like something out of a fairy tale.

A red carpet led to a grand throne at the end.

I shook my head.

Everyone knew this alpha was arrogant. The way he annihilated entire packs to expand his territory. I doubted anyone knew he fancied himself some sort of self-appointed

king.

By the time I reached the dais housing the throne, the alpha was already seated, his brother, the beta, standing beside him.

I was abruptly halted in front of Alpha Sebastian. One leg resting on the other, he lounged in the chair, looking down at me.

"Kneel, Skylar, rogue, formerly of the Moonstone Pack.

Submit to your alpha."

I stared at him in disbelief, a pang of hurt at being called a rogue. After everything I'd said in the forest, did he still think I would submit to him?

I shook my head.

"I won't," I spat through clenched teeth.

The warrior who had been dragging me through the woods, along with his companion, seized me by the shoulders, forcing me to my knees.

"Submit, Skylar," Alpha Sebastian growled.

"No!" I spat back.

His eyes narrowed, glaring at me. Was this how I was going to die?

"Take her below," he ordered.

The two warriors grabbed my arms and dragged me toward a side door.

As we descended, I realized we were heading to the dungeons. It was the only part of the building made of stone.

I was almost glad I didn't have my wolf's heightened senses.

I was sure I would smell death.

It didn't surprise me that there were no other prisoners.

What surprised me was that he didn't just kill me.

Maybe he held onto the vain hope that I would agree to be his mate; that was why he took me, after all. Well, he could keep dreaming.

I was unceremoniously thrown into a cell, and then they left me.

They didn't remove the ropes from my wrists, and I could still feel the burn. He had been right about one thing: grabbing that rope with my bare hands had been a foolish move. I looked at my palms.

They were raw and blistered.

I surveyed the cell. There was an old, yellow-stained mattress on the floor, dark patches scattered here and there.

I guessed it was the blood of the previous occupant.

I decided to steer clear of it. Instead, I sat on the cold, hard stone floor. It was uncomfortable, but I guessed I would have to get used to it.

Ileaned against the wall, careful to keep the trailing rope from touching my bare legs.

The moon was the only source of light, its glow seeping through the small barred window near the ceiling. It felt like the Moon Goddess was taunting me.

"What did I do to upset you?" I muttered, gazing out the window.

Predictably, there was no response.

I shut my eyes, resting my head against the cold stone wall.

It was late, and exhaustion was creeping in.

Sleep seemed unlikely, but I had to try.

I must have dozed off, more from sheer exhaustion than anything else. A gruff voice jolted me awake.

"Hey...girl," he barked.

Blinking my eyes open, I saw a guard outside my cell.

"Are you here to release me?" I mumbled

He rolled his eyes and snorted.

"The alpha ordered me to feed you."

He pushed a metal tray through a slot under the bars.

I crawled over to the tray and inspected it.

There was a cup of water and a piece of bread. The bread looked stale.

I pushed the tray back towards him.

"Tell your alpha he can shove his food up his ass," I sneered.

The guard looked at me, stunned.

"Assuming you have the guts to relay my message," I scoffed

I crawled back to the wall.

As I turned to sit and lean against the wall, he was still staring at me.

"What?" I snapped.

He frowned "Why aren't you using the mattress?"

I rolled my eyes.

"I have no plans to touch that disgusting thing. It's soaked in other people's blood, piss, and vomit.

"Unless you're going to untie these ropes, I suggest you get lost and deliver my message to your wonderful alpha," I sneered

He picked up the tray and walked away, glancing back at me occasionally.

Maybe no one had ever stood up to him before, or at least not lived to tell the tale.

I wondered how long I could keep this up, especially since refusing his food meant I was slowly starving myself.

Despite my defiant words, I didn't actually want to die. I just wanted to go home.

I choked back a sob, wiping my face on my arm.

No tears, Skylar. Stay strong

***

The same routine repeated the next day and the day after that. The only change was the guard; each one was different. I wondered if the alpha had killed the previous ones after receiving my messages. I never saw the alpha himself.

I couldn't figure out why he wanted to keep me alive.

Unless he made a promise to my father. But my father didn't care; if he did, I wouldn't be in this situation.

This time, when the guard took the tray, he shook his head at me.

"Any other prisoner would be dead by now. I'd be careful if I were you. His patience isn't endless," he warned.

I shrugged, dismissing his warning.

If he had any ounce of compassion, he would have at least ordered them to remove the ropes.

I lost track of time after that.

I started to regret my hunger strike when my stomach began to cramp from lack of food, and my lips turned dry and cracked. I didn't see any guards either. Maybe I got my wish. Maybe the Moon Goddess was listening.

Maybe I was going to die.

Chapter 5

Sebastian

I'd been mistaken to think Alpha James's daughters were all obedient. Skylar was anything but. She was stubborn, headstrong, and fiercely independent.

When I saw her deliberately hurt her own hands, I knew she was a force to be reckoned with. Wasn't that what I needed in a mate? But I still needed her to submit to me as her alpha, just like all my new pack members had to.

Even the youngest ones, when they came of age, went through the ceremony.

I never turned anyone away. I only asked for complete obedience and loyalty. Just like any king would.

It had taken some time to reclaim the lost territories of my birthright. It wasn't done yet, but soon I would reveal myself.

All I wanted was to bring her into my pack and make her my mate, my queen.

Couldn't she see the life of luxury that awaited her? What was holding her back? Most she-wolves would have jumped at the chance to be my mate. I knew her sister would have.

But I didn't want her sister, or any other she-wolf for that matter. I wanted Skylar. But why?

I couldn't understand the connection I felt to her. She wasn't my mate. My mate had been killed after she betrayed me. If any other wolf had defied me like Skylar, they would be dead. There were times when I wanted to hold her close; other times I wanted to punish her for her defiance. I was torn.

I sat in my office, my head in my hands, unsure of what to do. I was pulled from my thoughts by a knock at the door.

I straightened up.

"Enter," I growled.

The guard on duty today walked in and bowed.

"Well?" I snapped.

He lifted his head and shook it.

"She refused...again."

I let out a heavy sigh.

Three days. She had refused food for three days. She was going to starve herself to death.

"Leave," I growled.

He turned and left the room, but the door didn't close; instead, Kyrian walked in.

He closed the door behind him.

"What's going on, Bastian? Why is the rogue girl still alive?"

I glared at him.

"Her name is Skylar," I hissed

He shrugged and sighed before sitting in the chair across from my desk.

"What is she, Bastian? Any other rogue would be dead by now. What is she to you? She's not your mate."

I took a deep breath and let it out.

I shook my head.

"I don't know. I feel a connection to her. I felt it the moment I saw her in the window. I won't kill her, Kyrian, but if things continue like this, it might be out of my hands... she's refusing to eat."

Kyrian scratched his head

"Don't bite my head off, Bastian, but I think you should pay Lila a visit."

I glared at him. Even her name got under my skin.

"She's a liar and a fraud," I hissed.

Kyrian leaned forward.

"What if she isn't? What if she wasn't talking about Ariana, what if she was talking about Skylar?"

I-let out a heavy sigh.

Lila was a witch and an oracle, or so she claimed.

The last time I had seen her, she told me that in order to reclaim my title, I would need my fated mate. Ariana was supposed to be my fated mate, but she had betrayed me. She had slept with another wolf after I had claimed her.

True, I hadn't marked her, but she returned to her former lover. I found them in bed together. I'd rejected her on the spot. My wolf had taken control and killed them both, right then and there.

I'd sworn I wouldn't take a mate after that, until I found Skylar.

"Skylar isn't my fated mate, Kyrian. I don't know what she is, but my fated mate is dead."

Kyrian looked at me and shrugged.

"What harm could it do? See what she says. Before it's too late!"

I stared at Kyrian's back as he left the room. I didn't fully trust Lila. My father had trusted her, but after my last visit, I wasn't so sure.

I stood up and looked out of the window. I sighed heavily.

What did I have to lose?

Lila's cabin was at the foot of the mountains, surrounded by thick forest. No one came here unless they specifically wanted to see Lila.

No one really knew how old she was. My father had known her, and so had my grandfather. I had no reason not to trust her, until the mate incident.

I raised my hand to knock on the door, but it opened before I had a chance.

She stood in the doorway and cackled. She was old and her back was slightly hunched. She stood there, leaning on a gnarled old walking stick.

"T've been expecting you, young Alpha."

She stepped aside, to allow me entry.

I had to bend down to enter the door; otherwise, I would have banged my head.

She gestured to a seat at the table.

"Tea?" she questioned

I rolled my eyes.

"I'm not here for refreshment," I growled. "Let's just get on with it."

She chuckled and sat down opposite me.

"Always so impatient."

Then she scowled.

"You've come to talk about Skylar, haven't you?"

I glared at her.

How the hell did she know her name?

She smirked.

"I know many things, young Alpha. I see many things. I knew this day would come."

I folded my arms across my chest.

"Tell me. What is she? How do you know her?"

Lila smiled.

"I knew her mother. A sad story if ever I heard one."

I frowned

"Sad? Why?"

Lila sighed heavily.

"Her father is the alpha of Moonstone Pack..."

I rolled my eyes; I wanted something I didn't know already.

Lila glared at me.

I raised my hands and sighed

"Go on, I'm listening."

She stood up and walked across to the stove, where she began to make tea.

"Her mom wasn't the luna. Actually, her mom didn't even meet the alpha until his first kid was already two."

I watched as she opened the cabinet, pulling out two mugs.

"T'm not following. If he already had a mate and a kid..."

Lila set the mugs on the counter and filled them with tea.

She slid one in front of me before sitting back down.

"Alpha James wasn't the eldest son of the previous Alpha.

He wasn't meant to be alpha."

I nodded, understanding.

He'd always seemed weak to me. I was about to learn just how weak

Lila went on.

"His older brother was killed in a rogue attack. He had no choice but to step up as alpha. His brother's wife was heartbroken over the loss of her mate.

"James offered comfort to the grieving luna. James hadn't found a mate yet, and the pack needed a luna and an heir."

I stared at her, shocked.

"He mated with his dead brother's wife!"

She nodded.

"Skylar's mom was a rogue.

"She stumbled into Moonstone territory. The moment she showed up, he knew she was his fated mate. He couldn't reject her, but he didn't want her as the pack's luna either.

"The current luna was strong, his fated mate was just a rogue, an omega. He wanted it all," she huffed

I shook my head, disbelief washing over me.

I was known for being harsh and merciless; that's what the other packs and alphas thought of me, but even I wouldn't sink that low.

"What happened to her mom?" I asked

Lila huffed

"Nobody really knows. They say she was killed in a rogue attack, but a rogue rarely kills just one person and runs."

I narrowed my eyes.

"You know something, don't you?" I pushed.

Lila took a sip of her tea and nodded.

"James must have felt some guilt because he insisted that Skylar be raised as his own. He moved her into the pack house, much to the luna's displeasure.

"Somehow James discovered that the luna had planned his fated mate's death. Not long after Skylar's mom died, the luna also passed away."

Lila sighed

"The selfish man ended up with nothing, no mate, and no male heir." She smiled

"But that's not why you're here, is it? Young Alpha?"

I shook my head.

"Why do I feel a connection to her? Why do I feel the need to protect her one minute, then want to punish her the next?"

Lila cackled.

"Because, young Alpha, she's your mate."

I glared at her.

"That's not possible. I don't feel the mate bond. My wolf isn't drawn to her scent. In fact, it's barely there. There are no sparks when we touch."

Lila sighed.

"That's because she's your second chance mate. You feel something because your first mate is dead.

"Skylar, on the other hand, doesn't feel anything because her first chance mate is still alive. They just haven't met. If he dies, or if he marks another wolf, you will both feel the mate pull."

I stood up.

"I have to find her mate and kill him, then," I declared.

Lila looked at me and shook her head.

"That's one way to go about it, or you could try doing it the old-fashioned way. You could try winning her over, make her fall in love with you.

"Let nature take its course. Once you mark her, her other mate won't matter."

I rolled my eyes.

"She hates me. I took her from her family. She's currently wasting away in my dungeon, refusing to eat."

Lila cackled.

"Then you better make things right, young Alpha. My first prediction still stands. You won't fully reclaim your birthright unless you have your mate by your side."

Chapter 6

Sebastian

The whole ride home, Lila's words kept echoing in my head. It was like a twisted version of Cinderella.

The evil stepmother, the spiteful sister, and then there was me. I was far from being a prince charming.

No wonder she wouldn't eat. Her words kept playing on repeat in my mind: I'll never submit to you, not ever. I'll die first. I thought she was just being dramatic, I didn't think she meant it.

I couldn't understand why it was such a big deal. All wolves submitted to their pack alpha. What made this situation so different?

I wondered if she knew what her father had done to her mother, or that his other mate had killed her. The other mystery was who had murdered the luna. It couldn't have been Alpha James. He didn't seem to have the guts for that.

I was tempted to go back there. Confront him, but I needed to get back to Skylar. My first priority was to make sure she didn't starve herself to death. The Moonstone Pack could wait.

Then I would have to figure out a way to make her mine.

Usually, she-wolves were all over me. Just my luck that my second chance mate despised me.

The odds of finding her mate would be like searching for a needle in a haystack. Plus, if I killed him and she found out, it would be the end of the line. I needed a different plan.

I wasn't sure if I was capable of wooing any female, but I could try to be a bit gentler. If I kept her in my territory and was careful about who I let in, her mate wouldn't be an issue.

Little Skylar was mine, and I planned to keep it that way.

By the time I got back home, I had been gone for two days.

It took about a day to get to Lila's cottage, and another day to return.

Five days.

If she was still refusing to eat, it would have been five days.

When the doors to the pack house opened, Kyrian was there to welcome me.

"How is she?" I asked immediately.

Kyrian just shrugged.

"What do you mean?" I growled. "I trust you to take care of everything while I'm gone, and all you do is shrug?"

Kyrian sighed,

"I have, I do. But that doesn't include chasing after rogues and prisoners. That's not my job."

I narrowed my eyes.

He was against me bringing her back from the start. Now he would just let her die.

My wolf tried to surface, but I managed to keep control, only letting out a growl.

I think it was my wolf that felt the connection to Skylar more than I did. Although he did want her submission. He was alpha after all.

"I'll deal with you later," I hissed.

Then I turned and headed toward the dungeon.

As I walked down the stone steps, I hoped I would catch a mate scent. It would mean that her first mate had chosen another path.

The only scent I got was the smell of a rogue.

When a wolf is made a rogue, the scent is very faint. The longer they stay a rogue, the stronger the scent becomes. I needed to get her into my pack, one way or another.

I didn't know which cell they had put her in, so I just followed my nose.

When I saw her lying on the cold stone floor, I lost it.

She still had the ropes tied around her wrists.

The tiny nightdress clung to her body, soaked with sweat.

How could they just leave her like this? I know I told them to put her down here five days ago, but I didn't tell them to leave her tied up.

I grabbed the cell door and using my alpha strength, I ripped it off its hinges.

One of the guards came running in, to see what the noise was.

"Get these fucking ropes off her now," I growled. "Then get me some water."

I dropped to my knees and cradled her in my arms while he cut through the ropes with a knife.

I pressed my hand to her forehead. She was ice cold, but she was breathing. I guess that was something.

She moaned, as her eyelids fluttered open.

She stared at me.

"You..." she mumbled, "won't... submit."

I gently brushed a loose hair from her sweat-soaked forehead.

"Shh, Skylar. I know," I whispered.

Luke, the guard on duty, handed me a bottle of water.

I pressed the rim to her lips, but she shook her head.

Skylar gently shook her head

"Just drink," I ordered.

I dribbled some water over her partially opened lips.

She was still trying to resist me, even now. Her need for water overpowered her refusal to comply.

I gently stroked her cheek with my thumb.

"Still being a stubborn little one, even now."

She closed her eyes, silently giving up the fight. I knew she didn't want to, but her body was telling her otherwise.

This time, when I dribbled the water, she opened her mouth willingly.

"Good girl," I praised. "But I really wish you didn't nearly have to die to do as you were told."

She sighed heavily. If she'd had the strength she would have argued, but she didn't.

She opened her eyes and stared at me.

Then she opened her mouth to speak.

I shook my head and pressed my finger to her lips.

"Save your strength, Skylar," I told her sternly.

She sighed again and closed her eyes.

She didn't struggle as I picked her up and carried her bridal style from the dungeons. Either she didn't have the fight left in her, or she didn't have the energy.

I somehow thought it was likely to be the latter.

As I walked, I mind-linked the pack doctor.

I need you in my chamber!

When I reached my room, I kicked open the door and gently laid her on the bed.

Skylar's eyes fluttered open, tears pooling in them.

I stroked her face gently:

"Shh," I soothed.

I shouldn't have been surprised really. She had been through a lot. Maybe I should have been more understanding.

I hadn't intended for her to be starved of food and water.

I couldn't believe she was still tied up. Why hadn't the guards untied her?

A single tear slipped down her cheek.

"P-please don't..." she pleaded.

Her voice was so soft, I almost missed it.

I frowned, confused.

What was she asking me not to do? For the first time, I could smell her fear. What was she scared of? Me? She hadn't been scared before, just defiant and stubborn.

"Skylar, what's wrong? You need to tell me," I said, trying to understand.

Her eyes squeezed shut, and a sob slipped out.

"P-please don't...force me," she cried. "To...to...mate."

I was taken aback. My wolf stirred within me.

Not with desire, even though we both felt the pull towards this small wolf, but with anger. Why would she think I would do that?

I pushed him back, keeping a lid on both his fury and mine.

"Skylar, look at me," I commanded

She opened her eyes, brimming with tears that were ready to fall.

I gently brushed her face.

"I would never... not unless you wanted me to. Why would you think that? Is that why you wouldn't submit to me, as your alpha?"

Her lip quivered, and she nodded

"Sh-She told me, that's what you would do."

I clenched my jaw. She? Who was she? There was only one person I could think of... her sister.

Before I could ask, there was a loud knock on the door.

Skylar jumped, whimpering.

I pushed our conversation to the back of my mind. I needed to focus on her well-being.

"Come in," I called to the door, before turning back to Skylar.

I took her hand in mine, gently rubbing my thumb over her knuckles.

"It's just the doctor."

She seemed to relax a bit, the scent of her fear starting to fade. I hoped she believed me. I might be harsh at times, but I would never do that.

As the doctor walked in, he raised an eyebrow and wrinkled his nose.

When I glared at him, he bowed and offered his throat in submission.

I knew he wanted to question why I had a female rogue in my room, but that was none of his concern.

By the end of tomorrow, she wouldn't be a rogue anymore;

I'd make sure of that.

"She has silver and Wolfsbane burns. She's also dehydrated and has some other minor injuries," I informed him.

The doctor nodded and approached the bed.

Skylar tensed as he came closer, so I wrapped my arm around her, gently pulling her against me. She looked at me nervously for a moment, then seemed to relax a bit.

My hand rested on her hip. I gently rubbed circles with my thumb. I could almost feel the soft texture of her flawless skin through the thin fabric of her nightgown.

No, Skylar, I would never force you, but that didn't mean I wasn't starting to desire her perfect little body.

I pressed my lips to the top of her head, inhaling her scent.

I wondered what she would smell like without the rogue scent. Was this the start of the mate bond? Could it mean that her destined mate was getting close to another she-wolf?

Hope bloomed in my heart, especially when she looked at me softly with those beautiful green eyes, like a thousand emeralds sparkling in the light.

The doctor cleared his throat.

"She has a slight fever that will pass when her wolf re-emerges. The wounds on her legs and feet will heal normally, I just need to bandage her wrists and hands and apply a salve."

I nodded and smiled at Skylar.

"See, you'll be as good as new in no time."

While the doctor applied the bandages, I held her. Running my fingers up and down her side, occasionally giving her delicate body a gentle squeeze.

I closed my eyes, picturing her lying there naked for me.

When he was done, the doctor stood up. "I would suggest feeding her, little and often. Get her to drink as much fluid as she can."

I nodded and watched as he left.

I rested my hands on Skylar's shoulders, gently massaging the back of her neck with my thumbs. She visibly relaxed as my thumbs moved across her soft skin.

"Now we need to find you some clean clothes, and get you cleaned up," I suggested.

She was about to say she could do it herself, but then she glanced at her bandaged hands.

I chuckled.

"You're just going to have to let me take care of you, aren't you."

Chapter 7

Skylar

I had lost track of time since my last meal or drink. My stomach was twisted in knots from hunger, and my lips were starting to crack from thirst. I was drifting in and out of consciousness, but it wasn't restful. I was still exhausted, cold, and damp. The nightdress I'd been wearing since my capture clung to my skin.

My wrists and hands ached. I never thought my life would end like this.

Then, the door burst open, and his voice filled the room.

The last time I heard it, I was upstairs in a grand room. He was demanding my submission, calling me a rogue.

Now, he was here again. His strong hands were on me, but this time, he was gentle. Why?

I forced my eyes open.

I wasn't dreaming.

I mumbled something about not submitting, but he just replied softly.

"Shh, Skylar. I know."

Then, I felt the plastic bottle against my lips. I was so thirsty, but I wanted to refuse it. Accepting it felt like submission.

Emmeline had warned me not to accept anything from him, but I was too weak to resist. My mind wanted to fight, but my body was too weak. So, I drank the water.

He told me I was a good girl. I didn't want to be good.

Emmeline's words echoed in my mind.

If you submit, he'll force you to mate. You won't have a choice.

He'll take you brutally until he's filled your belly with his pups.

So, 1 let him pick me up and carry me. I didn't have the strength to resist.

I knew Emmeline was right when he carried me into a luxurious bedroom. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before.

As he laid me on the bed, I couldn't hold back my tears anymore.

Despite his gentleness, I knew what was coming next. I silently prayed to the Moon Goddess as I begged him not to be the monster I knew he was.

But I was wrong.

He was horrified that I had thought that, had been told that.

I saw him stiffen, but before he could say anything, there was a knock on the door and the doctor came in.

The doctor looked at me with disgust but treated me anyway.

Now, I was sitting there, feeling just as trapped as I had in the dungeon. My hands were bandaged, and I was at the mercy of Alpha Sebastian.

I could see by the smirk on his face he thought it was amusing as he led me to the bathroom.

Everything in this pack house was luxurious, from the intricate wooden floors to the furniture.

His bathroom was no different.

There was a giant sunken bathtub in the middle of the room.

On the other side was a walk-in shower, large enough for three people. Then there were double marble sinks with ornate mirrors above them. An archway led to the toilet area. It was stunningly beautiful. My old pack house was nothing compared to this.

Even the bedrooms didn't have ensuite, and the main bathroom wasn't even a quarter the size of this one.

He fiddled with some controls next to the bath, steam rising from it as it filled with hot water.

I watched him as he pulled off his T-shirt, revealing his muscular torso covered in tattoos. I couldn't take my eyes off him as I stared at the various designs on his chest and arms.

I swallowed nervously. After all he had said in the bedroom, why was he undressing?

He looked at me and chuckled as he cupped my face in his hand.

His hand was so warm and soft, I struggled not to lean into it. I didn't want to give him any ideas. I'd probably given him enough with my revelation earlier.

He stroked my cheek with his thumb.

"I've been on the road for two days, I need a bath just as badly as you. Now arms up, let me take off this filthy clothing."

I felt my face flush as I looked at the floor. He was going to see me naked!

But what could I do? He was right. My clothes were filthy, covered in mud, sweat, and blood. They were ripped in places.

"You can't have a bath with your clothes on, now can you?

Besides, I'm sure you've been naked plenty of times after you shift," he added.

I didn't say anything, I just lifted my arms and allowed him to pull the half-shredded garment over my head.

I wasn't sure how to tell him that I'd never shifted. That my wolf always seemed distant. That I healed more slowly than other wolves. I was an omega after all. Even if I did shift, my wolf would likely be pathetic.

I didn't know what he would do when he found out. The same as my father did to my mother most likely, shun me.

Force me to live on the outskirts of the territory, alone.

I never asked him why, and he never told me.

My mother always told me that we were omegas. It was only when she died that my father claimed me as his.

I was too small to be an alpha like my father or my sister and I was sure an alpha would have a much stronger wolf than I did.

Once my nightdress was removed, he gently took my arm and helped me to step into the bath.

"Don't let your hands get wet," he warned.

I nodded as I sat in the warm water.

I heard the rustle of clothes as he removed the rest of his before entering the bath.

I squealed when I felt his hands on my waist pulling me toward him.

"Relax, Skylar," he chuckled. "I can hardly bathe you when you're over the other side of the bath, can I?"

His arm wrapped around my waist and he pulled me into his chest. My heart felt like it was about to explode from my chest.

I crossed my arms over my chest, making sure that my hands were above the water.

I flinched when I felt his hand on my shoulder.

He ignored it and began rubbing the soap into my dirty skin.

My thoughts were racing. Everything my sister had said.

His surprise when I relayed her words to him.

I was torn about who to trust. But here, sitting naked in the bath with him, his touch was so tender. If he had any ill intentions, wouldn't he have acted on them by now?

I inhaled deeply, trying to calm my nerves.

"Just relax, Skylar, close your eyes."

His voice was soothing, even the way he said my name seemed to put me at ease. So, I closed my eyes.

I felt warm water cascade over my head as he wet my hair, then began to wash it.

A soft moan slipped from my lips as his fingers gently massaged my scalp.

His chuckle echoed in the room.

"Does that feel good, Skylar?"

I hummed in response. Despite my resentment for him abducting me and confining me in a dungeon, I couldn't recall the last time someone had helped me bathe or wash my hair.

Human touch was a rarity in my life.

My mother used to hug me, bathe me, and wash my hair.

After her death, I took care of myself, even though I lived in the alpha's house as his daughter;

I was so relaxed that I almost dozed off. That was until I felt his beard tickle my neck as he whispered in my ear.

"You're not falling asleep on me, are you Skylar?"

My breath hitched as his lips brushed a gentle kiss on my sholder.

I quickly shook my head.

"N...no," I stuttered.

His deep chuckle filled the room.

"Good, because I need to feed you."

Right on cue, my stomach growled.

My cheeks heated up. Damn these hands. What was I thinking when I grabbed that rope, knowing it would burn me.

Now he was going to have to feed me.

He stood up and stepped out of the bath. When he walked around to face me, he was wearing a towel, wrapped around his waist.

Water dripped from his shoulders onto his chest, making his skin glisten like bronze.

I lowered my gaze and felt my cheeks heat up again.

I had to stop doing that. What kind of signals was I sending?

"Doesn't cost anything to look." He smirked, holding out a towel for me. "It just means I get to look as well."

He raised an eyebrow suggestively, and I felt my face flush again.

I stood up without looking at him further. Although I felt his hand on my arm as he helped me out of the bath.

He wrapped the towel around me and pulled me into his chest.

"See," he whispered, his voice deep and smooth. "That wasn't so bad, was it?"

I shook my head, keeping my gaze on the floor.

If I wasn't careful, I was going to die of embarrassment. I couldn't help it.

The only men I had ever interacted with were my father and Beta William. Now I was dealing with a complete stranger, who had essentially kidnapped me.

I wanted to despise him, not just for the abduction, but for the way he seemed to enjoy tormenting me. But I couldn't.

Yes, he had dragged me through the forest, and then had me thrown in his dungeon.

But since he had returned, from wherever he had been, he had been nothing but kind and gentle.

Part of me didn't want to like him, because he wasn't my fated mate, but then Emmeline used to flirt with a lot of unmated males. Only the high-ranking ones though. Then she would regale me with stories.

After discovering that what she had said about Alpha Sebastian wasn't true, I started to question some of her other tales.

My thoughts were interrupted by the alpha.

I let out a surprised squeal as he hoisted me over his shoulder.

"Wh-what are you doing," I gasped.

He just chuckled.

"You were daydreaming, Skylar. So I thought it would be quicker this way."

I squirmed.

"I can walk," I protested.

He gently slapped my bottom. I squealed again, although it didn't really hurt, as the towel cushioned the impact. I just wasn't comfortable with him doing that.

Not that I had much of a choice.

He chuckled again.

"Maybe next time you'll listen to me when I'm talking to you," he chided as he gently tossed me onto the bed.

I propped myself up on my elbows and glared at him.

He raised his eyebrows, then leaned on the bed, his face inches away from mine.

"Didn't they teach you in school? 'For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction? In other words, there are consequences, but I told you that already."

I pouted

How was I supposed to know anything like that when I never went to school?

Before I could say anything, he surprised me with a quick peck on the lips.

"Now, let's see what I can find you to wear until I can find you some proper clothes."

He turned and walked toward the closet. I licked my lips as I watched him walk away.

He tasted nice.

Chapter 8

Sebastian

I couldn't explain why I'd kissed her that way, but once I had, I wanted to do it again. Only this time, I wanted to do it right. But it was too soon, especially considering what her sister had told her.

Sometimes, she looked at me like a frightened rabbit staring at the wolf about to eat it. I wanted to consume her, but not in that way.

I wanted to savor her lips, taste her essence, claim her and make her mine, but it was too soon. I had to take things slow. I sensed she was holding back, not telling me everything about her life in the Moonstone Pack.

I wanted to know, but I didn't want her to feel like I was grilling her. I needed her to trust me enough to submit to me, so I could bring her into the pack. I had to do that, and soon.

Her rogue scent was getting stronger. She wouldn't be able to shift and run in my territory until she was a member of my pack.

I let the towel I was wearing fall to the floor and grabbed some sweats and a T-shirt.

I ran my fingers along the clothing rails and stopped at a white button-up shirt. I hardly ever wore these things. I preferred black. But white, yes, white would suit my little Skylar,

I mind-linked my gamma.

Please get one of the omegas to bring some finger food to my chamber.

He acknowledged the message.

I grabbed the shirt from the hanger and headed back into the bedroom.

She was still sitting there, propped up on her elbows, staring at the closet door.

I smirked, and she blushed yet again, lowering her eyes.

"Come here," I said softly.

She shuffled herself to the edge of the bed.

I dropped the shirt on the bed, and took hold of the towel, gently unwrapping her like a Christmas present.

She crossed her arms against her chest. Why was she so self-conscious about her body?

Werewolves were usually quite comfortable being naked.

We had to be, before shifting and then shifting back to our human form.

I brushed her hair behind her ear and cupped her cheek in my hand.

"Why are you so concerned about covering yourself up, Skylar? You're beautiful," I whispered.

Her face flushed, but she didn't answer.

I didn't press the point.

Instead, I picked up the shirt and held it so she could put it

on.

She pushed one of her arms through the sleeve, then the other.

I chuckled as her arms completely disappeared.

"We better sort that out, don't you think?" I smirked.

She looked at me, the slightest hint of a smile forming on her face, and she nodded.

I rolled up the sleeves, then buttoned up the front, leaving a few buttons open at the top.

It covered her but allowed me to see some of her pale porcelain skin. Two of her would have been able to fit in my shirt; the length was about the same as the nightdress she had been wearing.

I took a step back and looked at her, nodding.

"It suits you," I smirked.

She held her arms out, then looked down at herself.

"It's a bit big," she concluded.

Thummed and tilted my head to the side.

"Well, I like it."

A knock on the door ended any further discussion on what she was wearing. She was certainly less jumpy this time.

I walked to the door and opened it. One of the omegas stood there with a tray. She bowed.

"Your food, Alpha."

I smiled; she was nervous.

"Jade, isn't it?"

She nodded but didn't raise her eyes.

"Put it on the table, Jade, then you may go."

She nodded, and I stepped to the side to let her pass.

She glanced over at Skylar, who was still sitting on the bed.

She didn't say anything; she just deposited the food and left.

I knew what she must be thinking, but tomorrow, when I brought Skylar into the pack, everyone would know who she was.

As I walked over to the bed, she surprised me with a question.

"Who was that?" she asked.

I smiled.

"That was Jade, one of the omegas who works in the kitchen."

Skylar frowned.

"Does she live nearby?"

I chuckled. "She lives in the pack house, why?"

She shook her head, but her frown remained.

Then I remembered what Lila had told me about her mother.

"You seem surprised," I added. "Don't the Moonstone Pack omegas live in the pack house?"

She shook her head.

"Come," I said, placing my hand on her back. "Let's eat and talk, you must be hungry."

She hesitated for a moment.

"I'm not who you think I am," she blurted.

I stopped, and I couldn't help but smile. Maybe now she was opening up.

"Oh," I said, with mock seriousness. "Are you not the daughter of Alpha James?"

She swallowed nervously.

"Y... Yes, but my mother..." she hesitated again.

"She wasn't the luna?" I questioned.

She shook her head.

I sat down on the bed next to her, my hand still gently holding the small of her back.

"Tell me about your mother then?"

Skylar bit her bottom lip.

"She died...when I was small..."

I gently rubbed circles on her back with the tips of my fingers.

"I'm sorry..." I began but stopped dead when I looked at her face.

Her eyes had a faraway look in them as if some memory haunted her thoughts.

"There was so much blood. It was everywhere," she whispered. "I tried to wake her, but she wouldn't wake up."

I clenched my jaw. They'd killed her mother and left her to find the body. What sort of people would do that to a pup.

I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed my hand up and down her arm.

She raised her head and looked at me.

"She was an omega. I was born an omega. I'm not an alpha.

You should have chosen my sister."

I shook my head.

"I don't care what rank you are Skylar. I chose you."

I turned to face her and cupped both her cheeks in my hand.

"Your sister was the one who told you I'd force you, wasn't she?" I asked.

She nodded in response.

I tenderly kissed the top of her head.

"I don't think she cared for you as much as you believed she did."

She closed her eyes for a moment. I wasn't sure if it was relief from my acceptance or something else.

I didn't have to wait long to find out.

"I can't shift, and I never went to school."

I frowned at her words.

"What do you mean, Skylar? Everyone goes to school, even the omegas."

She shook her head.

"Daddy said it was too dangerous. I wasn't allowed outside.

Whenever I asked, he would get angry."

I placed my hands on her shoulders.

"What about your wolf, Skylar? We have to let our wolves out, they need to run."

She swallowed nervously.

"She doesn't talk much. I can sense her, but she's mostly asleep."

Something was off. I knew omega wolves were small, not very powerful, but they still needed to run, needed to shift.

What was holding her back?

Could it be some despicable alpha command her father had given her? Now that she was no longer part of his pack, the command should be lifted.

Sure, the Wolfsbane and silver ropes would have affected her wolf, but if she was affected before...

"Did your father..." I sighed. "Did your father ever use an alpha command on you?"

She furrowed her brow, as if deep in thought. Then she nodded.

"When I was little. He came to see me. Mom made me wear my best dress. I'd never seen him before, but Mom said he loved me.

"We sat in the house, and he made her go outside. He told me I must never tell anyone who my father was."

My wolf growled, but I pushed him down. This was not the time to scare Skylar.

That bastard had used an alpha command on his own daughter to hide his dirty deeds. To hide his filthy secret.

"Mom was angry," she continued. "I heard her yell at him, then he left. She told me we had to leave, but then Uncle William came, and he convinced her to stay."

Skylar sighed, and tears welled up in her eyes.

"If we'd left as she wanted, she might still be alive, but Uncle William was her friend, so she listened to him."

I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her into my chest. She didn't deserve any of this.

She was such a pure, innocent soul, and her father had abused his power in the worst possible way. They called me a brute, and ruthless, but I was nothing compared to him.

I wondered what she meant by Uncle William being her mother's friend. Then it hit me. Beta William. Was he involved too?

I just wanted to hold her. Make all her demons disappear, but I had to be practical.

She needed food.

I unwrapped my arms from around her.

"Come on," I said, forcing a smile. "You need to eat."

I guided her over to the other side of the room, my hand resting on the small of her back.

Jade had placed the tray of food on a table next to the sofa. I sat down and pulled Skylar into my lap.

She squirmed and protested.

"I can sit..." she began, but I quickly interrupted her.

"I know, but you can't feed yourself, and it will be easier this way."

She looked at me and rolled her eyes.

"Skylar!" I scolded. "That's very disrespectful. By tomorrow, I'll be your alpha. I don't want my first duty to be punishing you."

She dropped her head.

"Sorry, Alpha," she mumbled

I shook my head. Why did I feel guilty every time I scolded or threatened her with punishment?

I picked up a strawberry from the plate of food.

"Open your mouth, Skylar."

She raised her head and looked at me in surprise. Then she noticed the strawberry.

She opened her mouth, and I popped the strawberry into it.

She closed her eyes and moaned.

I felt my cock twitch in my pants. This little wolf was going to be the death of me if she kept moaning like that.

Chapter 9

Sebastian

After a few bites of food, her eyelids started to droop. I was amazed she had managed to stay awake this long, considering everything she had been through. Or rather, everything I had put her through.

But it wasn't all my fault.

I wasn't to blame for her refusal to eat, or for her bound wrists. I didn't make her burn her hands on purpose.

But I did throw her into my dungeon. That was on me.

I didn't feel guilty about taking her away from her pack, though. She believed her father and sister loved her, cared for her, but from what she had told me, they didn't. What they did was abuse.

Maybe it wasn't physical abuse, but it was still cruel. In time, she would understand that I had done her a favor.

I wiped a bit of food from her lower lip with my thumb.

She forced her eyes open.

"You need to sleep, little one. Did you eat enough?"

She nodded.

"I'm full," she mumbled.

She hadn't eaten much, but it was enough for me. After all, the doctor had said little and often.

I carried her back to the bed. This time, she didn't protest when she rested her head on my chest. I wasn't sure if she was warming up to me, or if she was just too tired to care.

Either way, I'd take what I could get.

She was so light, so small. She didn't look eighteen at all.

I gently laid her on my bed and pulled the covers over her.

Her breathing was already steady, a sign that she had fallen asleep.

I stroked her cheek with my thumb and kissed her forehead.

"Sleep well, little mate. You're safe now, I promise," I whispered.

I stood up and watched her for a few more moments.

She was so beautiful, so delicate, so innocent. '

I went to my walk-in closet and quickly changed into my combat gear. I needed it for what I was about to do.

I was going to get answers, and the more intimidating I looked, the easier it would be.

I mind-linked Luke, the guard on duty in the dungeon tonight.

There were no prisoners there at the moment, so he was free.

Luke, I want you outside my chambers until I return. No one gets in, and no one comes out.

I gave Skylar one last look before I left the room.

I doubted she'd try to escape, but I wasn't taking any chances. She had a strong rogue scent about her. Not that I thought any of my pack would harm her, but I wasn't willing to risk it.

My brother didn't seem to like her, but I would deal with that tomorrow.

Right now, I was heading back to the Moonstone Pack to kick some ass and get some answers.

Some might have thought it was foolish to go back to her old pack alone. But we were supposed to be allies, at least for now. Besides, the pack was weak, and their warriors were weak.

I had sensed that easily on my last visit. If they were stronger and the alpha cared for his daughter, he would have fought harder.

Thad a feeling that he was glad to be rid of her, despite the front he put on.

I wasn't challenged by the pack warriors, not once. I could smell them, though. Weakness mixed with fear.

If they were that scared, it seemed pointless for them to be out there. Any werewolf worth his salt would use that against them. I knew I would if I had to.

I ran toward the pack house and burst through the doors, nearly knocking them off their hinges. Then I ran to the same room where I had first met Skylar.

As I suspected, it was a dining room.

Alpha James stood up as I entered the room. His face was pale, but he held his ground. I had to give him that.

I looked around the room and found the first person I was looking for: Skylar's sister.

As I approached her, she got up from her seat and backed away. But that didn't stop me. I grabbed her by the throat and pinned her to the wall, her legs dangling as she choked.

"I know what you did," I growled. "You told her I was going to rape her, didn't you?"

She couldn't answer.

"You thought I'd kill her when she refused to submit, didn't you?" I hissed.

"You've taken my other daughter, you can't kill my remaining daughter, we have an agreement. If you break it, you'll have to return my daughter to me," Alpha James screamed.

I looked over at him and let go of Emmeline's throat.

She fell to the floor, coughing and gasping for air.

"If you think for one second that I would let you touch her again, you're mistaken," I growled.

I looked at Emmeline, who had finally stopped coughing.

"I hate her," she screamed. "Everyone always talks about little Skvlar. precious Skylar. I was his favorite until she little Skylar, precious Skylar. I was his favorite until she came along!"

Alpha James looked at his daughter.

"No, Emmeline... it wasn't like that."

The beta, who had been standing in the shadows, stepped forward.

"Is Skylar unharmed?" he stuttered.

I rolled my eyes.

"Beta William," I scoffed. "The only one to ask about the kidnapped daughter. Were you involved in her mistreatment, because I know what you all did," I hissed.

Beta William stepped forward.

He shook his head

"No, I was never involved. I was the one who comforted Skylar's mother.

"When the pain became too much while he," Beta William pointed an accusing finger at Alpha James, "slept with his brother's mate. He didn't even have the guts to reject his own mate!"

Beta William looked at me. "I was the one who made sure they had food on the table, and that little girl had clothes on her back."

Alpha James glared at his beta.

"How dare you disrespect me," he growled.

The beta looked at the alpha with disdain. I had a feeling that he had kept his anger inside for too long.

"You dare accuse me of disrespect?" he shot back. "After everything you've done? I've got no respect left for you.

"You turned Emmeline against her own sister. Made her hate her so much, she'd have killed her if she could.

Instead, she tried to get someone else to do it. You're both cowards."

He sighed heavily. "And I'm no better. I should've done more to protect that little girl. I should've let them leave after what you did to her."

I looked at the beta, a sinking feeling in my gut. I had a feeling I knew who killed the luna.

"The luna?" I asked.

He nodded.

"The day he used his alpha command on the little girl, the luna followed him. She discovered his true mate and his daughter. But instead of confronting him, she planned to have them both killed.

"Skylar's mother must've sensed something was wrong. She sent Skylar out to get a loaf of bread. I got there too late to save Skylar's mother. I found Skylar, huddled over her mother's body, covered in blood, trying to wake her.

"If I'd known what he was planning..."

He pointed an accusing finger at his alpha.

"I never would've brought her here if I'd known what you were going to do."

He shook his head, disgust written all over his face.

I frowned.

"What exactly did he do?"

Beta William sighed.

"He locked her up. From the day I brought her here, to the day you took her, that little girl was never allowed outside.

At first, it was to hide her from the luna, then...I don't know.

"He suppressed her wolf. Just enough so she couldn't shift."

I stared at Beta William in shock. I'd thought her lack of healing was due to the ropes, not because she'd been drugged by her own father.

Alpha James stood up and walked toward his beta.

"I never wanted that child, and I never wanted a useless omega mate," he spat. "But you. You just didn't understand, did you. I had a reputation to uphold."

The beta let out a bitter laugh.

"You think you had a reputation after you took your brother's mate? You were the pack's joke. If they'd known what you did, what your luna did."

He shook his head, then sneered at Alpha James.

"I killed her, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat."

A muftled sob escaped from Emmeline's mouth. I'd almost forgotten she was there.

"You.. You killed my mother," she sobbed.

Alpha James took a step toward his beta, but he stopped when I moved toward him.

"Touch one hair on his head, and I'll rip your throat out," I hissed

Alpha James looked between me and his beta.

His gaze finally settled on his beta.

"Beta William, I banish you from the Moonstone Pack.

You're now a rogue," he hissed

The ex-beta rolled his eyes.

"I was planning on leaving anyway. You people, you're sick."

He started toward the door, but I called out to him before he'd gone far.

"Beta William, wait."

He stopped and looked at me.

I turned to Alpha James.

"You're right, I have a non-aggression treaty with you, and I'll honor it as long as you're alpha. But..."

I glanced at his daughter, then back at him.

"Once she or her mate takes over as alpha of this pack, I'll make sure I come back and wipe this pack off the map.

"Don't mistake this for weakness. I'm only doing this because Skylar wouldn't want to see you dead."

I looked at Beta William.

"Beta, if you want, there's a place for you in my pack. I know Skylar would be happy to see you."

He nodded.

"Thank you, Alpha Sebastian, but my true rank is gamma.

I'd be honored to join your pack with that rank."

I glared at Emmeline, who was still sitting on the floor in shock.

"Once your father is gone, or you take over, there's only one person who can save you.

"You better hope Skylar feels some sort of compassion because I can assure you, if she doesn't, I won't hesitate to end your life."

I walked toward the doors.

"Come, Gamma William, I have a mate to return to," I said as I walked out the door.

I crossed the compound with William following close

"Alpha Sebastian," he called out.

I stopped and turned to face him.

"There's something else you should know," he began.

I frowned.

"About Skylar?"

He nodded. "Indirectly. It's more about her mother."

I waited for him to continue.

"Skylar was born prematurely. The alpha found a witch. She made a potion to try and kill the baby," he paused, letting the information sink in.

"But it didn't work. Skylar's mother had a very strong wolf.

"It protected the baby she was carrying and fought off the potion that should've killed her. It's just... I don't think Skylar's mother was an omega."

Chapter 10

Skylar

I was lying on a hard surface.

Was I back in the dungeon, on the icy stone floor? No, this was smooth and warm, and something was tickling my back.

I forced my eyes open, and I squealed

How did I end up here?

I was sprawled on top of Alpha Sebastian.

My body was draped across his chest. One of his hands had snuck up the shirt I was wearing. His fingertips were gliding up and down my rib cage, as if I was a human harp.

I tried to push myself off him, but I winced

My hands were still tender.

His hand stilled and just held me in place. His other hand was resting on my bare backside. He gave it a gentle swat, making me jump. It wasn't painful, just surprising.

"Be still, little wolf," he scolded

I frowned and tilted my head slightly.

"T'm not your blanket," I huffed, still trying to free myself from his grip.

I wasn't sure where this sudden bravery was coming from.

Maybe because I felt he had no intention to hurt me or force me to mate, as my sister had warned. I still didn't quite understand why she had said those things, maybe it was just a misunderstanding. Yes, that must be it.

She was my sister after all.

His chest rumbled as he chuckled. His hand gently stroked my bottom as he hummed thoughtfully.

"I quite like the idea of you as my blanket, little wolf.

Besides, if that's what I want you to be, that's exactly what you will be," he declared with a laugh.

I rolled my eyes.

Before I knew what was happening, he had flipped me onto my back.

He was straddling me and had pinned my arms by the side of my head. I noticed that he was holding me by my upper arms, being careful to avoid my injured hands and wrists.

"What did I tell you yesterday... about being disrespectful, little rogue?"

He narrowed his eyes and brought his face closer to mine.

I swallowed nervously. Suddenly my bravery vanished.

Not because I thought he would hurt me. If he'd wanted to do that, he could have just grabbed my wrists. No, it was because of what I was feeling between my legs. I knew what it was. I just didn't want him to smell my arousal.

Despite everything, I didn't want him to think that I wanted him to mate me. I still believed that I had a fated mate out there somewhere. Even if my sister tried to tell me otherwise.

Maybe she was wrong about Alpha Sebastian, maybe she was wrong about that too.

Two years ago

I was sitting in Emmeline's room, cross-legged on her bed Watching her get ready to go out.

I sighed.

"I wish I could go outside. Go to parties like you do."

She looked at me and rolled her eyes.

"You know you're not allowed, Skylar. It's too dangerous for you to go outside. Besides, there would be no point."

I frowned.

"I don't see why it's dangerous for me and not for you; besides, I might find my mate."

Emmeline looked at me and shook her head, dismissively.

"You can't go outside because whoever killed your mother might be lurking in the shadows, waiting to kill you," she snapped, "Not that I care," she scoffed.

"Besides, you're an omega. Omegas don't have mates. No one would want to be the mate of a worthless Omega."

I felt tears pooling in my eyes, but I blinked them away.

Even though Emmeline was my sister, she could be mean sometimes.

"What if I'm not an omega? We have the same daddy, and you're not an omega," I huffed.

She sneered at me.

"Just because you live here, and call him daddy, it doesn't mean anything. Omegas are only good for unmated males to fuck, everyone knows that.

"That's probably what happened to your mother. My daddy is the alpha; it's his job to take in homeless runts! It doesn't make him your father."

She walked over to the bed and gave me a shove.

"Now get out of my room, you're souring my mood and I have to look my best for the party."

I frowned

"Please, Emmeline, let me stay a bit longer, I'm sorry," I begged.

She curled her lip.

"No, fuck off you worthless runt before I tell daddy you're being mean."

A tear trickled down my cheek as I left Emmeline's room.

Maybe she was right, maybe I didn't have a mate.

I flinched when he called me a rogue.

It was worse than being a worthless omega.

I pouted.

"Don't call me a rogue, I don't like it," I grumbled.

He tilted his head to one side.

"But you are, and little rogues who disrespect their alphas have to be punished, don't they?"

I blinked and took a deep breath.

He was the alpha here, and it was true. I was just a rogue.

"Are you... Are you going to send me back to the dungeon?" I asked, unable to keep the tremor from my voice.

He shook his head and smirked.

"Oh no, little wolf, I have a much better punishment for you."

He let go of my arms, and his hands slid inside the bottom of the shirt I was wearing.

His fingertips began to jiggle against my ribs and my waist as he tickled me mercilessly.

I squealed and tried to squirm away from him, but his thighs gripped my hips, holding me in place. My hands were useless to try and push him away, and he knew it.

"Please..." I managed to gasp, but he carried on regardless.

"Please...Sebastian..."

He stopped and stared at me.

I gasped. I hadn't meant to say his name; it just slipped out.

Now I would really be punished. No one called an alpha by their name; it was insulting and disrespectful.

"I...I'm sorry," I stuttered.

He leaned forward, one hand on either side of my head, caging me.

"Repeat that," he murmured.

I gulped, my throat dry.

"I...I'm sorry, Alpha...I didn't mean.." I stammered.

"No." He shook his head.

"No Skylar, say my name."

I met his gaze head-on. I'd never really noticed before, but his eyes were a striking shade of blue.

I bit my lower lip.

He reached out, his thumb gently pulling my lip from between my teeth. His thumb traced my lip, and his face inched closer to mine.

"Say my name, Skylar. Say it now," he insisted.

I swallowed again.

"S..Sebastian," I breathed out, barely audible.

It felt like I'd just spoken a forbidden word. I half-expected every wolf in his pack to pounce on me for such blasphemy.

Saying the alpha's name was a grave offense.

"Louder, Skylar. Say it louder," he encouraged.

I frowned. Why did he want me to say his name? Was he trying to make me disrespect him?

"Sebastian."

I said his name a bit louder this time.

He smiled, his hands gently cradling my face.

"From now on, you are to call me by my name, do you understand?"

I nodded slightly, as much as I could with his hands holding my face.

"Y-yes, Alpha... I mean... Sebastian."

Then his lips were on mine. His tongue gently teased my lower lip.

As my mouth opened, his tongue ventured inside.

Exploring me, tasting me, claiming me.

The taste of his previous kiss now filled my mouth as I kissed him back.

When our lips finally parted, he looked at me and licked his lips.

My face felt so hot I thought it was on fire, so I blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"I... I need to use the bathroom," I said.

Sebastian chuckled.

"I bet you do!"

He moved off me and lay on his side, propped up on his elbow.

He looked at me and smirked.

"Go on then, little wolf. Get yourself to the bathroom, I'll be there in a bit, to help you."

I gulped nervously before scrambling off the bed and rushing toward the bathroom, cursing my bandaged hands.

I closed the bathroom door and leaned against it. What just happened?

I touched my swollen lips with my fingertips, the only part of my hands not wrapped in bandages. I couldn't help but smile. But I shouldn't be smiling.

This wasn't supposed to happen.

"He's nice though.

My wolf. Now she decided to wake up. She hardly ever spoke to me.

"He's not our mate though, is he?" I countered.

"Still nice, strong... powerful. I like him."

I rolled my eyes and headed for the toilet. I wondered it she was like this because she was an omega. Was that why they never had a mate, because they fell for the first wolf that kissed them?

But that wasn't the biggest issue.

He wanted me to call him by his name. Now every wolf in his pack would know something was up.

I let out a frustrated sigh.

Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. I just had to call him by his name, didn't I?

If I hadn't, none of this would have happened.

Chapter 11

Sebastian

I was sprawled out on the bed, watching her as she darted into the bathroom. The faint scent of her arousal hung in the air.

I didn't want to push my luck, but those lips, that mouth... I craved more.

"Mark her, Mate her," my wolf growled.

I rolled my eyes.

"Not happening, buddy, at least not yet. You'll just have to be patient."

He growled and tried to push forward, so 1 pushed back.

"Not patient, need mate."

I shook my head and sighed. I was starting to earn her trust; the last thing I needed was a rampant wolf taking control.

"Soon, buddy. Just be patient."

He started to grumble, so I blocked him. I had a ceremony to prepare for, and my little Skylar would be the star of the show.

There was a loud knock on the door.

I glanced toward the bathroom, knowing I had to help Skylar. Not that she probably wanted help, but she needed it, whether she liked it or not.

I walked toward the bedroom door; hopefully, whoever was there could be sent on their way.

As I opened the door, Kyrian barged in. He was scowling.

"What the fuck, Bastian. You're turning this pack house into a hotel for rogues. Is the dungeon not good enough for rogues anymore?"

I sighed and shook my head

"Really, Kyrian. What is it you don't like about that little she-wolf, and for your information, the other rogue is the Moonstone Pack's ex-beta."

Kyrian looked at me and frowned.

"I'm just worried about you brother. I don't want a repeat of what happened with Ariana."

I rolled my eyes.

"Honestly, Kyrian, you're the one who told me to go and see Lila. It was just as well I did. Little Skylar..." I glanced toward the bedroom and lowered my voice.

"Little Skylar is my second chance mate," I whispered.

Kyrian stared at me in shock.

"Have you told her?"

I ran my fingers through my hair, then shook my head

"No, because she still has a fated mate out there somewhere."

Kyrian shook his head.

"Bastian!" he exclaimed. "What are you going to do, keep her here until she caves, or find him and kill him."

I sighed heavily.

"Honestly, Kyrian, I don't know. I figured maybe whoever he is might decide to take another mate. If that happens, as soon as they mark their chosen mate, she'll recognize me as her mate."

I smirked.

"T've a funny feeling she's already feeling the pull slightly."

Kyrian sighed and shook his head.

"That's a dangerous game you're playing, Bastian. If she finds out, or if he dies and she thinks you had anything to do with it..."

I waved him off.

"She's not going to find out. Besides, those shitheads over at the Moonstone Pack treated her so badly. Being here for her, it'll be like all her Christmases have come at once."

I knew I felt like all mine had.

Kyrian glared at me.

"You went back over there...alone? Anything could have happened."

I chuckled.

"It did. I found out a bit more information, and I invited the beta to join us after that pathetic excuse of an alpha banished him."

Kyrian raised his eyebrows.

"What the hell made him do that?"

I sighed

"He disagreed with the way little Skylar was treated. That fucking alpha used his command on her when she was a child," I hissed.

"A fucking child. Just so she wouldn't tell anyone he was her father. Then to make matters worse, he all but kept her prisoner in the pack house, and suppressed her wolf. She hasn't even had her first shift!"

Kyrian shook his head and sneered in disgust.

"Oh, and the luna arranged to have her mother killed. That's pretty much why the beta got banished, he was the one that killed her afterward, to protect little Skylar," I concluded.

"Does she know?"

I shook my head.

"I don't think so, and she doesn't know that her father tried to end the pregnancy, before she was even born," I added.

Kyrian ran his fingers through his hair and shook his head in disbelief.

"You really did her a favor, didn't you?"

I nodded. Hopefully, she would realize that in time.

I just wasn't looking forward to telling her the truth about her family. She would feel hurt and betrayed. I knew that feeling

"Do you want me to find something for her to wear, for the joining ceremony?" he asked.

I smirked, my mind imagining how beautiful she would look in an expensive gown.

"Yes, something in white, a little revealing but not too much."

Kyrian chuckled as he headed for the door.

"I know just the thing —I'll send one of the omegas over with it."

I sometimes thought Kyrian had missed his vocation in life.

He seemed to know what would look good on both females and males.

Half the she-wolves in the pack house would ask him for advice on what they should wear.

He would make my little Skylar look even more beautiful if that was possible.

I headed through to the bathroom, where I found Skylar sitting on the toilet, her head in her hands.

"Skylar?" I questioned, concern lacing my voice.

When she pulled her hands away from her face, I could see her cheeks glistening with tears.

I rushed over to where she was sitting and crouched down in front of her.

I wiped her tears away with my thumbs and cupped her face in my hands.

"Whatever is the matter?"

Her cerulean orbs glistened with tears as she gazed at me.

Then she lowered them, not daring to look me in the eye.

"I...I heard you...I heard what you said," she sobbed.

I stiffened. What had she heard? Did she know I was her second chance mate? Did she know I was trying to keep her away from her fated mate so that she would become mine?

I gently put two fingers under her chin and tilted her head up. Her eyes still gaze at the floor.

"Skylar, look at me," I said, my voice soft but firm.

She lifted her gaze to meet mine.

"What did you overhear?" I questioned.

I silently pleaded with the Moon Goddess, hoping she hadn't caught the part about her mate, whoever he might be.

"I...I apologize," she stammered.

A lone tear slipped down her cheek.

"I... Is it true? Did the luna murder my mother? Did my father really attempt to kill me?" Her voice broke with a sob.

She dropped her gaze once more.

"Is that why he handed me over to you?"

1 enveloped her in my arms and lifted her up.

She placed her bandaged hands on my shoulders and wrapped her legs around my waist.

She nestled her head into the crook of my shoulder, her soft sobs echoing in my ear.

I stroked her back, my hand moving over the fabric of my shirt, whispering soothing words to her.

"His loss is my gain, little one," I murmured.

I shut my eyes, sending a silent thank you to the Moon Goddess that she hadn't heard Kyrian mention me keeping her away from her mate.

I didn't give a damn about what might happen next. All I knew was that I wanted Skylar for myself.

No one was going to snatch her away from me, not even her destined first mate.

Chapter 12

Skylar

My wolf whimpered, echoing the turmoil in my mind. I felt utterly worthless. I'd been worthless since the day I was born. No, even before that. My mother had lied. He didn't love me.

If my own father couldn't love me, how could I expect a mate to? Maybe my mother didn't love me either. What if she'd agreed with him? What if she wanted to get rid of me too?

And what about Sebastian?

How long before he grew tired of me? What would happen then? Would he kill me?

Another sob slipped from my lips as Sebastian carried me into the shower, his hand gently rubbing my back.

The material of his shirt was thin enough to feel the warmth of his hand.

Wait! I couldn't shower. The bandages would get wet, then the doctor would be mad. It would be my fault. Everything was always my fault.

I pulled my head away from the comfort of his chest.

"No, Sebastian, the bandages and your shirt," I protested.

He stopped and looked at me.

Then it hit me. I'd just told an alpha no. I'd just told an alpha what to do.

I lowered my gaze to his chest.

"I... I'm sorry," I mumbled.

I felt a deep rumble in his chest, as he chuckled.

"Everything that's happened to you, all the things you've discovered about your so-called family, and the first thing you worry about is some bandages and a dirty old shirt? I couldn't care less if they get wet."

I frowned.

"But it's a good shirt, better than anything I've ever had," I said.

Sebastian looked at me and rolled his eyes.

"Now why doesn't that surprise me," he scoffed.

He gently placed me on the floor of the shower.

"Give me your hands," he commanded.

I held them out, unsure of what he was going to do.

When I was small, if my father was angry, or if I left my room when I wasn't supposed to, he would tell me to hold my hands out, and he'd hit them with a switch.

I closed my eyes tightly, held my breath, and waited.

Sebastian, however, just started to unwrap the bandages. I opened one eye, to check.

To make sure that he wasn't waiting until I was least expecting it.

He grinned and shook his head.

"One day, you might actually trust me, eh?"

I looked at the floor. "Sorry, Alpha," I whispered.

He took my chin in his hand and tilted my head up so that I had to look at him.

"What did I tell you to call me?" he chided.

I swallowed nervously.

"S-sorry...Sebastian," I corrected.

He nodded, then tossed the bandages on the floor of the shower.

Sebastian held both my hands, palms up, and looked at them carefully, then he inspected my wrists. He kissed each one gently in turn and hummed.

"Looks like someone's wolf has come back."

I looked at my hands, the skin was almost normal. Just a little red in places, but even the red places didn't hurt.

I thought about what I had heard.

"What does suppress mean?" I asked.

Sebastian smiled, then cupped my cheeks in his hands.

"So precious," he whispered, then kissed the top of my head

"It means they made your wolf sleep, now let's get you showered."

He began to unbutton the shirt I was wearing.

I was about to protest, then I thought better of it. I'd already told him no once and gotten away with it. It was better not to push my luck. He wanted me to trust him, and I did, to a point.

But that didn't mean I didn't think he'd get bored with me.

Then he might do what the luna did to my mother. I just hoped it would be quick if he decided to kill me.

Because maybe Emmeline had been right.

Maybe omegas were only good for sex.

Once he had undone the buttons, he slid the shirt from my shoulders. It was so big, I didn't have to remove the sleeves; it just fell to the floor.

Then I was left standing there, naked in front of the alpha.

I clamped my legs together and covered my breasts with my arms.

I let out a gasp as he pulled down the boxers he was wearing and let them fall to the floor.

He stepped out of them and took a step toward me.

I squeezed my eyes shut.

"What's the matter, little wolf? Haven't you seen a man naked before?"

I quickly shook my head

I could feel he was standing close to me, even with my eyes closed. His body radiated heat, making my face flush.

I gasped again when his hands gripped my shoulders. Then he turned me around, so I was facing the wall.

I swallowed nervously, then opened my eyes.

I saw his hand reach up and turn on the taps. Warm water cascaded over me. He stepped a little closer. I could feel his flesh touching mine.

Then his arms wrapped around me, and I felt his lips on my shoulder.

He gently pressed kisses to my shoulder, then my neck.

"Did my daddy give me to you, so that you could fuck me?" I asked, my voice cracking slightly.

I felt him take a step back and move away from me.

Then his hands gripped my shoulders again, as he spun me around to face him.

"No..." he began.

I dropped my head and looked at the floor.

I guess I wasn't even good enough for that.

I felt his fingers under my chin, as he tilted my head back.

"It's not that I don't want to, little wolf, but I don't just want to fuck you..." he hesitated. "The things that I want to do to you little one...you've no idea."

I felt my face flush.

"I thought that was all omegas were good for?" I mumbled.

He shook his head.

"Who told you that? Was it that fucking sister of yours?" he asked, his anger simmering just below the surface.

"S-Sorry," I stuttered, "I didn't mean to make you angry."

He sighed and held his hand to my cheek.

"Didn't happen, sweetheart. Now, let's get you all cleaned up, okay?" he murmured.

He spun me around, his stomach pressing against my back.

I felt something else too, but I tried to push it out of my mind. My wolf, however, had no such reservations.

"See, I told you I liked him. He likes us too."

Her words made me blush. So, I did what any sane person would do.

I ignored her.

As the water flowed over us, his hands roamed my body, gently working the soap into a lather on my skin. It was hard to believe that a man as big and as fierce as him could be so tender.

But he was. At least with me.

I leaned into him again and let him wash me. I let out a soft moan when his fingers brushed over my nipples. He hummed happily, lingering a bit longer than necessary.

It was an odd sensation. Not just where his fingers were touching me, but elsewhere too. It was similar to how I felt when he kissed me; only now, there was nowhere to hide.

"You like that, don't you, little wolf?" Sebastian murmured in my ear.

I did, but I didn't confess it. I didn't need to, as I could barely hold back the moans escaping my lips.

My wolf wasn't much help either.

"Yes, we like it. I wonder where he'll touch next?" she hummed in my mind

She was so eager. I was grateful he couldn't hear her.

Thankfully, he didn't touch anywhere else. Although my wolf was disappointed.

Sebastian gently guided me out of the shower and wrapped me in another one of his plush towels. He didn't even bother to pick up the wet shirt or the used bandages. I figured he had servants for that.

"Now, I have a surprise for you," he declared.

I turned and looked up at him.

"What is it?"

He just grinned, then chuckled

"Well, if I told you, it wouldn't be a surprise, would it?"

I frowned a bit.

I knew from experience that surprises could be good or bad.

"It won't be bad. I told you, he likes us," my wolf assured.

With a hand gently resting on my bare shoulder, he led me back into the bedroom.

I gasped when 1 saw a dress laid out on the bed. It was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. It was even more beautiful than the ones Emmeline used to wear when she

went out.

I looked at Sebastian.

"Is—is that the surprise? Is that for me?" I asked.

Sebastian laughed.

"Well, it's not for me." He smirked. "But that's not the surprise. Why don't you put it on while I get changed."

Then he vanished into the closet.

I carefully picked up the dress and held it up to get a better look. I'd never felt fabric so soft. I wondered if Emmeline's dresses were as soft as this. I was never allowed to touch, only to look.

I put it on, being careful not to soil it. It was pure white and fit perfectly, hugging my body like a second skin. It had a deep cut out in the back and the dress was held up by tiny spaghetti straps on the shoulders.

I jumped when I heard Sebastian's voice.

"Do you like it?" he asked

I spun around, the skirt of the dress billowing out as I turned.

I grinned at him.

"It's beautiful," I whispered. "I've never worn anything like this before."

He walked toward me. He was dressed in dark blue jeans and a matching jacket. His shirt was black.

The top few buttons were undone, revealing his chest. Gold rings adorned his fingers.

His hand touched my face. The rings felt cold against my skin, but the rest of his hand was warm.

"A beautiful person deserves beautiful things," he whispered, his lips brushing against mine for a moment.

Then he took my hand and led me over to the sofa where he had fed me the day before.

"Sit down, Skylar, and wait here," he instructed.

I did as he asked, unsure of what was to come.

I watched as he walked to the door and opened it.

The girl from the previous night entered.

He looked at me and smiled.

"Be a good girl while Jade does your hair."

He was about to leave the room when I called out.

"Where are you going?"

He smirked.

"To make sure everything is ready for your surprise."
